Having data stores that are just as easy to use and more difficult to corrupt is a very very very good thing. That's not saying that a full formal rejig is the best thing for koha just now, but there are some odd things in today's db design that we can fix, and some that we possibly can't (eg foreign keys, views -- claim these are not useful tools and I show you an anti-RI wonk). Long term, these probably will be fixed (eg the features are coming to MySQL later), but that doesn't mean it's a good idea to do radical brain surgery before 2.0. > That's a pretty normal developer pattern. opac search results count wrong

When I do a search in the OPAC, the search results listing says "Results 2 through 22 of 721 records." What happened to result number one? I thought I remembered a bug relating to this problem, but I couldn't find it. Does that ring a bell for anyone? -- Owen ---- Nelsonville Public Library Koha 2.0.0-pre2-R2

Bonjour Paul, and hello everyone else I'll be going to this, and would be happy to report back on sessions that would be of interest to Koha participants. If anyone else on the list is going, perhaps we can arrange to meet at the conference and have a chat about Koha and open source software in general. Paul asked "who is Brenda?". I am a lecturer in library and information management here in New Zealand, and teach courses in information technology and business information sources. I have been following Koha developments for a while now, and hope to be more involved with the project in the future. Here is the abstract for my presentation at the LITA National Forum 2003: Abstract/Outline: What is involved in managing and participating in a distributed open source software development project? What options are available for organisations that choose to implement open source software? Koha, the world's first open source library management software package, was originally developed for the Horowhenua Library Trust, based in Levin, New Zealand, by Katipo Communications Limited, in Wellington, New Zealand. It was released as open source software under the GPL in 2000, and there are now 27 registered developers (and 84 subscribers to the development discussion list) working on new releases, in New Zealand, Canada, the United States and France, Poland, Germany, Spain, and New Caledonia. The Koha kaitiaki (project manager) is in the state of Washington, USA. Koha is currently being used by libraries in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, France, Italy, and the United States, and people from India, and South America have also expressed interest in it . This session will cover the various Koha participant roles (such as project manager, developer, documenter, user), as well as the range of tools and techniques used by Koha participants to communicate with each other, using a case study approach. These include email discussion lists, IRC, and a wikiwikiweb (or wiki for short), as well as a bug tracking utility. I wrote the abstract quite a while ago, and know that the number of developers and list of countries using Koha are out-of-date - I hope to have these updated for the presentation. I expect that the handouts from the talk will be available on the LITA website following the conference - I'll send the URL to the list when (and if) it's available. OK, if you weren't on IRC, here's a summary of what you missed: Headline figures: 66 bugs open, 313 fixed awaiting verification, 6 verified (thanks owen!), 12 new bugs this week. Of those 12 bugs, 6 were labelled as enhancement requests, 1 has been fixed already, 1 looks like it may have been fixed (questions asked of people involved) and 2 are duplicates of bugs already reported. The other new bugs are: 577 nor P2 All tonnesen(a)cmsd.bc.ca NEW Move HTML out of authorised_values.pl and marctagstructure.pl 579 nor P2 PC chris(a)katipo.co.nz NEW biblioitems.classification not available to search results template Visit bugs.koha.org now, claim them, fix them and get undying gratitude of the masses! Other things discussed included how to handle bugs we can't reproduce (ask for help on user list, then label as INVALID if we still can't), when to release pre3 (maybe next week, while Paul is away), why it's not rc1 (upgrade scripts still almost totally missing) and much else. Personal update: I've still got 9 installer bugs to play with. I hope to have a little time this week to clear 2 or 3 and enough next week to clear the rest, depending on whether pre3 is released or not. Hi all, I've a problem with the bug 512 (http://bugs.koha.org/cgi-bin/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=512) I don't understand what is the problem, & box4email(a)yahoo.com didn't answer a mail I sended a few days ago. does someone have encountered this bug ? Authentication

Hi everyone, I just installed Pre2 and I have an authentication question. We would like to set up users with different privileges and defaults, but I can't seem to see how to arrange that. The apache security uses a username that I specified on install...is there some way to log in as a different user? Can I add users? I see where flags can be modified on borrowers but I can't see any way to log in as a borrower. Joshua
