Improving the advanced search form

Hi there, I am currently working on improving accessibility of koha opac site with our accessibility expert. One of the things we noticed is that the advanced search option is not only confusing for blind users but also even for normal users. I have noticed the following issues with it: 1) By default the Fewer Options option is selected, which is not obvious to the normal users until they click on More Options. 2) The layout could be a lot better, in particular the Fewer Options search form is quite abstract in what it does. For example, the default boolean operator is AND which is not obvious to even normal user. In my opinion, layout similar to the one http://kea.massey.ac.nz/search/X, is better. suspected error in record.abs and proposal for a new index

Hi I'd like to edit Unimarc Record.abs to create an index for dissertation note (field 328 : http://www.bnf.fr/documents/B328_6_2010.pdf) I remark this field in Marc21 is field 502 : http://www.loc.gov/marc/bibliographic/bd502.html : 502 - Dissertation Note (R) But in Marc21 Record.abs, this field is mapped with index "Material-type" line 155 : melm 502 Material-type An other field is also mapped with Material-type in Marc21 : 007 line 53 melm 007 Microform-generation:n:range(data,11,1),Material-type,ff7-00:w:range(data,0,1),ff7-01:w:range(data,1,1),ff7-02:w:range(data,2,1),ff7-01-02:w:range(data,0,2) I've never used Marc21, but it sounds a bit strange for me. Could Marc21 guys tell me if this 502 mapping with "Material-type" index is a bug? If it is a bug, what about creating a new index, "dissertation-note" for example, mapped with 502 in Marc21 and 328 in Unimarc ? In bib1.att, there is Dissertation-information = 1056 which could I suppose be user for that purpose. Regards, M. what about creating a new "opac-any" index in zebra?

Hello As a librairian, I think the "any" index defined in record.abs often return too much results, and inappropriate. It is *partly *caused by "any" index indexing all fields, including all notes fields (5XX in marc21, 3XX in unimarc), and of a lot of fields that could be usefull for staff but not for our public (internal item notes, statistic codes, date/place of publication etc). I want to submit you an idea : - creating a new index in zebra, matching only "usefull" fields and subfields (and it will be editable by all libraries...). For example we could call it "opac-any" - modifying the templates so that this index may be used instead of "any" when somebody makes a search in opac. What do you think of that? Better weigthing for specific indexes ?

Hello I think I have found a little bug, but I am not sure of it. in C4/Search.pm (sub _build_weighted_query), I found this : 826 $weighted_query .= " $index,ext,r1=\"$operand\""; # exact index 827 #$weighted_query .= " or (title-sort-az=0 or $index,startswithnt,st-word,r3=$operand #)"; 828 $weighted_query .= " or $index,phr,r3=\"$operand\""; # phrase index 829 $weighted_query .= 830 " or $index,rt,wrdl,r3=\"$operand\""; # word list index So Word list index is on the same plane as Phrase index. I suppose if we define Phrase index as r2, the weighting would be more accurate? I don't know how zebra is working internally, so could somebody confirm please ? Regards, M. Koha on Mysql Cluster

Hi List, I am facing a prob with a setup design that has safety and min-down time fail-over etc as a prerequisite. This has led me to consider a MySql Cluster setup. I've tried to import the database into it and found out that it wasn't as simple as I thought. As a result I had to mess around table and column definitions. However since I haven't tried it in a "production" or "close-to", KOHA installation, I am not certain that the functionality will be intact 100%. I wonder if this will be interesting to the developers of KOHA. If so, please let me know in order to mail you the "Cluster" DB structure that passes into mysql. Kind regards grharry.

[IMPORTANT] for Koha setups in UNIMARC and git

Hi koha-devel, I just pushed patch for bug 3087. It changes zebra configuration files for *UNIMARC* setups. The change is a small one but *requires* that your zebra configuration files are updated. Koha 3.6.x EOL

Good morning. Earlier today I released Koha 3.6.10, my final release as Release Maintainer for the Koha 3.6.x branch. So far no one has accepted the position of RMaint for 3.6.x during the 3.12 release cycle, despite my various pleas, entreaties, and threats. It is my hope that a new release maintainer will step forward for 3.6.x, since I believe that this branch has not yet exhausted its usefulness, but until this happens the 3.6.x branch should be considered orphaned, and libraries should begin to consider upgrading to 3.8.x or the forthcoming 3.10. One further note about 3.6.10: this upgrade included fixes for several cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in Koha that have been present at least since 3.4. ALL USERS OF KOHA SHOULD UPGRADE TO THE LATEST RELEASE ON THE BRANCH THEY ARE FOLLOWING TO RECEIVE PROTECTION FROM THESE THREATS.
