Some of the best work we've done on Koha has been while in conversation with developers on the IRC channel (for which they are owed many thanks!). It's an invaluable tool to a community like ours that spans several countries. -- Owen

MARC biblio framework => question

I had a meeting yesterday with 35 librarians. I spoke of Koha 2.2 (and showed 2.0) About the MARC biblio framework, I had a very good suggestion, that I think we should adopt. For instance, a MARC biblio framework can be defined for an itemtype. The suggestion is "why do you want to connect framework & itemtype ? Sometimes, we want to catalog a simple monography, sometimes, a complex one. So, the framework could be defined freely. A librarian could have 1 for "simple cataloguing", one for "complete MARC cataloguing", one for "quick CDROM", one for "CDROM - full UNIMARC" ". I think that's a very good suggestion. If you have something to complete, pls write in this mailing list. Please restart IRC logger

Could someone please restart the IRC logger? I like to check the logs occasionally to keep up with what's happening with the project, and the logger seems to have died about a week ago. Thanks, Rob

I linked up CVS (see script below) and went to add a new biblio, but find that the addbiblio.pl script displays only the tabs, the heading "MARC biblio:", and buttons for "Add biblio" and "z3950 search". Hi, Now that the css template is the default for Intranet module in Koha, how can I reuse the default_intranet_pl_PL.po file? Will ./tmpl_process3.pl update -i .../en/css suffice to keep already translated strings, and allow me to continue with it? Thanks Benedict

I've been watching Koha for a little while now, and finally my wife told me to just install it, because she wants to use it. As she reads books, she wants to keep track of which ones she likes, so she can check them out when our two-year old gets to that reading level. So now we've got a working Koha system on her computer. I've noticed already a few things I'd like to tweak, so I can use it more comfortably. I am downloading from CVS right now. Is there a way to run Koha directly from the CVS tree? Any quick start pointers? I figure I can leave plain Koha on my wife's machine, and put the CVS version on mine, both running off her database. I'm a Perl programmer by trade, with a lot of my time spent re-writing modules to increase stability, efficiency, and readability (at least, I understand it better when I'm done). That's mostly what I'd like to do here. First off, I'd like to get Z39.50 searching a little nicer. Part of that might just be clearer documentation. (I'm having problems finding some ISBN numbers in the Library of Congress, even when they have a LC call number, so it would be nice to be able to search on that as well, or know which other servers I should be looking at.) And so when I search by title and get lots of records with the same title, it would be nice to have a few more columns to differentiate between them, like date published, or LC call number if there is no ISBN. I would also like to allow the use of Net::SMTP, rather than Mail::Sendmail, and perhaps the DateTime suite rather than Date::Manip. I would also like to be able to use DBD::Pg, rather than DBD::mysql, though I am not volunteering for that quite yet. How should I go about getting changes back into CVS? Is there a contact person I need to go through? Thanks for letting me ramble. So far, Koha looks really great. It looks like you've done a good job. -kolibrie

Hi, Many thanks to Andrew Groome for solving the problem with the acquisitions module. However there is a problem when trying to modify biblios, I've made changes in the group record but for some reason is not registering it in the catalogue record etc. I've attached screen shots to show the process, note on Pge 5 that the modify/submit button image is not shown. The upgrade to Koha 2.0 has not been as smooth as I'd envisaged and I'd welcome any help/advice which will enable me to have a working system again.
