Is MARC support in Koha only partial?

Hi list, I just saw the following web page: http://www.loc.gov/marc/bibliographic/ecbdlist.html ... and I am thinking to myself that perhaps Koha doesn't support all the fields, subfields and indicators that are present in MARC21. I base my assumption on the fact that marc_tag_structure and marc_subfield_structure tables do not have them all there. Would it be right to assume that if those tables had all the fields with indicators and subfields that MARC21 specification includes then we would be able to create an input form to properly catalog new bibliographic records for later exporting them into iso-2709 file? Useful for sharing bibliographic records with other libraries. Benedict

FASD project: Online survey launched

Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. MarcKohaMap - please help.

Hi all, Koha-2.0 seems to be shipped with some fields not set (could be my impression only). I have setup a page on the wiki. Could I ask anybody to have a look at it and correct the wiki page for me? http://www.saas.nsw.edu.au/koha_wiki/index.php?action=save&page=SposobyMapo… Once ready it could replace the current page (http://www.saas.nsw.edu.au/koha_wiki/index.php?page=MarcKohaMap) which seems outdated. You only need to look for a couple of things there. Please, pay particular attention to biblionember, biblioitemnumber and itemnumber. I've messed up something and forgot how they should be mapped. See also whether these are OK: biblioitems: 852 h - classification 852 k OR 300 f - itemtype 022 a OR 440 x - issn 082 a OR 852 k - dewey 260 c - publicationyear 700 a,b,c,d OR 300 b - illus notes 500 a (maybe set $3 to 'biblioitems'?) - what does it mean? 245 f - copyrightdate volumedate volumeddesc timestamp marc - are they mapped to anything? items: Tag 876 does it exist or is used? Copy/paste of commit notes : CIRCULATION : the big rewrite... This 1st commit reorders deeply the circulation module. The goal is to : * have something 100% templated/translatable. * have something easy to read & modify, to say to customers/users : you can define your circulation rules as you want if you accept to look in C4/Circ/Circ2.pm The circulation now works : 1=> ask for the borrower barcode (as previously) 2=> ask for the item barcode. 3=> check "canbookbeissued". This new sub returns 2 arrays : - IMPOSSIBLE : if something is here, then the issue is not possible and is not done. - TOBECONFIRMED : if something is here, then the issue can be donc if the user confirms it. 4=> if TOBECONFIRMED is set : ask for confirmation, loop. if neither are set or confirmation flag is set (2nd pass of the loop), then issue. The IMPOSSIBLE & TOBECONFIRMED hashs contains : * the reason of the line. always in capitals, with words separated by _ : BARCODE_UNKNOWN, DEBTS ... as key of the hash * more information, as value of the hash ( TOBECONFIRMED{ALREADY_ISSUED} = "previous_borrower_name", for example) This commit : * compiles * works on certain situations, not on other * does NOT issue (the line is # ) * does not check issuing rules depending of # of books allowed / already issued The next step is : - check issuing rule. - extend issuing rule to have a 3D array : for each branch / itemtype / borrowertype = issuing number and issuing length. -- Paul POULAIN Consultant indépendant en logiciels libres responsable francophone de koha (SIGB libre http://www.koha-fr.org)

installer from cvs broken?

Hi list, here is the error I get when instlling from CVS ./installer script. Is it my fault or a bug? Question about Acquisitions and 'Biblios in koha'

Why is it when I hit 'Go' in .../acqui.simple/addbooks.pl (after typing in an ISBN) I never get any biblios listed in the "Biblios in koha" table, even though the biblio with that ISBN is in the bibioitems table. However it works fine when I type in the title. Looks like a bug to me. Am I missing something? I'm running Koha2.0.0. PS. My Koha.biblio table does not contain ISBN column. Tomasz Kotula

British and American editions occasionally differ enough to warrant entirely separate typesetting, but often to save money the same text is shared between British and American publishers. Two allow the British and America editions to be distinguished for marketing and inventory purposes, both a British and American ISBN are sometimes included in the same work. encoding of z3950 imported records

Hi, First, thank you all for this software; I am happy trying to use Koha. Lately, Benedykt Barszcz reported a problem with encoding of records imported through z3950. This is a general problem. 1. In fact, the records a imported in ISO-8859-1 encoding. They are converted from marc8/ANSEL or ISO5426/ISO6937 to ISO-8859-1 in the subroutine 'char_decode' in Biblio.pm. This will not work for libraries with books in languages of different charsets. The universal solution would be to store data in utf-8. Then all localized templates schuld be translated to utf-8 encoding. 2. In 'char_decode' a string is converted to ISO-8859-1 separetly for UNIMARC and MARC21. LoC uses MARC21 with ANSEL encoding, european libraries use mostely UNIMARC with ISO5426 encoding - but it's not always the case. Polish National Library's z3950 server in fact responds with MARC21 records in ISO5426 encoding. Happily, it seems to me, that both encodings don't overlap, so it is safe to make char-decoding for both at ones.
