New intranet template

I've just committed to CVS a copy of the custom template that I put together for the Nelsonville Public Library. All pages should be valid XHTML, with CSS-positioning. Users of older browsers like Netscape 4 will see unstyled content. I tried to eliminate all NPL-specific things, but I may have missed a few. Terminology will often be different from the default template, and some links may be missing if they're to functions we don't use. Comments or bug reports are welcome. Barcode and confusion

Hi group, Acquisition module is so criptic to me... When using simple aquisition module I cannot make the barcode feature to work as expected (v 2.0.0RC4). After filling out fields in MARC biblio I am presented with a screen where there's "Add Item" button. A files marked as "p barcode" is shown. Once filled with a value, say 9788370120122, the book cannot be found by this barcode from the catalog search page. I found out the the book received barcode number "1". Why? Benedict

Lost database connection during z3950 searches.

Hi, I just downloaded koha2RC4, but unfortunately it is still buggy (actually unusable) when running z3950 searches. When an ISBN is typed in and "z3950 search" executed, the processz3950queue.pl script successfully queries LOC but then looses database connection and reports MySQL server has gone away at ... Unfortunately I never programmed in PERL, (but got myself a good PERL book) and tried finding out what's going on. I know now exactly when and why it fails but I'm unable to fix it :-( Here is what's happening... 1. Once "z3950 search" is clicked, the processz3950queue.pl forks. The child correctly looks up LOC and does its thing. However once it 'exits' on line 314, the data base connection is lost in the parent process as well, hence I get errors on lines 136, 139 etc after it prints 'starting loop'. To prove this I delayed the 'exit' by 20 seconds and during this time the parent ran quite happily. 2. On line 182, the child process tries to get a new database handle, but C4::Context->dbh, according to its documentation, will not work at it simply returns an existing handle because a connection has already been made, right at the start of the script. 3. I though bingo, replaced Context->dbh with ->new_dbh and expected it to work, but sadly it failed the same way. 4. According to my very limited understanding, the child process must establish a new connection to the database, so when it exits only this connection will be lost and not the parent's one. I'm running RH8. Hoping that someone will know how to fix it. Thanks tomasz kotula.

where to set sitewide character encoding?

Hi, I was wondering where to set sitewide character encoding for the Polish language. In the httpd.conf or in a file of koha distro? Is there such single file? Say, I translate opac.pl using kate and utf-8... Then I update the directories with ./tmpl_process. I can't enjoy utf-8 because koha defaults to iso-8859-1. Paul, how did you menage to set it in the French language? French uses iso-8859-2. Benedict

Hi Group, Here is what I get when I install a fresh copy of koha, latest. Creating the MySQL database for Koha... css directory...?

Hi group, After I tried the translator mechanism I see that one can significantly speed up the localization's process. Question: what is the css directory under opac-tmpl? Do I need one for my language? Is tmpl_process sutable for translating it? Thanks guys for all your input on this. Benedict PS. I asked about charset encodings and have noticed that there are three places where one could change them. opac-top.tmpl, opac-top.inc and the one in the css directory, too. That's opac-main.tmpl also. Is there a difference between the too? What?

testing text-extract from Ambrose

Hi, I tried the text-extract tool that ambrose commited today for translator tool. Here is a small report : Processing ../../koha-tmpl/intranet-tmpl/default/en/default.tmpl... Warning: Strange attribute syntax in line 9: ></a></td> If I add "" around href : <td><a href="/cgi-bin/koha/detail.pl?type=intra&bib="></a></td> I get no message. Nice thing : the tool reports HTML errors in english templates :-) Other things : * Processing ../../koha-tmpl/intranet-tmpl/default/en/acqui.simple/marcimport.tmpl... Warning: Strange attribute syntax in line 32: / but the line is valid : <td width="10%" rowspan=2 valign="middle"><input type="submit" value="Go" class="button"/></td> (the input is self-closed, that is valid. More than an unclosed tag) * lot of errors are about "Warning: Syntax error in comment at line ..."
