Hi, I'm working/testing z3950 client at the moment. I've some problems to reproduce the "server has gone away" problem. In fact, I don't succeed at all. It works fine for me (except minor problem rendering UNIMARC records). So, does anyone have an idea ? I had one : "maybe i should use daemon-launch.pl script to launch the daemon". Next release

Hi, I will speak of the next releases. My opinion, as 2.0.0 release manager is that the next release should be called 2.0.0, without anything else. It's used in 6 libraries in France, and some others around the world. It's not perfect, but everything works. The DB has not been modified (except for indexes) since a long time. That proves, imho, that Koha 2.0.0 is stable. Except for z3950 client. But i've a customer that pays me to install Koha with a working z3950 client, so i'll work on it until it works fine (hoping it won't need 2 years :-D ) What's next ??? A lot of features are asked, here in France. Some of them may/should have funders in the next few months. Some of them require only a few hours (like the bookshelf improvement i've commited today : done yesterday in the TGV between Paris & Lyon). The french mailing list is quite active since 2 weeks : users ask for improvements. I'll write a summary of their needs next week, probably. I'll put an english version on the wiki. So, what should we put in 2.0.0 and what in 2.2.0 (HEAD branch of CVS) My opinion is : * bugfixes are put in rel_2_0 cvs branch. New releases occurs when an important bugfix is done, or some minors. * Any new translation (chinese, german, spanish...) can be put in 2.0.0. A new release occurs when a new translation is published. * everything new is put in HEAD. * CODE cleaning is done in HEAD, to avoid side effect on buggy clean. I'll begin to clean some things soon i think. BUT : * MINOR improvement, that don't need DB changes, or a really minor one, *can* be backported to rel_2_0 if the 2.0.0 maintainer want to do it. * MAJOR improvements are done in HEAD, for 2.1.x unstable and 2.2.x stable. WHO-DO-WHAT. We have a useless 2.0.0 Release Manager, as the 2.0.0 is stable. We need : * a 2.0.0 Release Maintainer * a 2.2.0 Release Manager. I don't apply as Release Maintainer. Do we have a volunteer around ? HI, Thank you guys for the help about the mysql problem I mentioned the other day. In fact it was the 'delete from db' and delete from user' issue. Now, I need to know what is going on here: ./misc/buildrelease [I answer questions] a tarball is created in /tmp/. I do a fresh installation of Koha. Everything works but the aqciusition module. reinstalling koha with same error DB

What is this? I did the following: mysql -u root -p mysql After password I was dropped into mysql database. drop database Koha; successfull. DELETE from user WHERE User='kohaadmin'; successful. SELECT * from user; It shows there is no kohaadmin user in it. Now the error below, what can it be? thanks for any hints. CREATING DATABASE Creating the MySQL database for Koha... 0ERROR 1062 at line 1: Duplicate entry '%-Koha-kohaadmin' for key 1 connected to your DB. Checking & modifying it Adding marc_word table... New intranet template

I've just committed to CVS a copy of the custom template that I put together for the Nelsonville Public Library. All pages should be valid XHTML, with CSS-positioning. Users of older browsers like Netscape 4 will see unstyled content. I tried to eliminate all NPL-specific things, but I may have missed a few. Terminology will often be different from the default template, and some links may be missing if they're to functions we don't use. Comments or bug reports are welcome. Barcode and confusion

Hi group, Acquisition module is so criptic to me... When using simple aquisition module I cannot make the barcode feature to work as expected (v 2.0.0RC4). After filling out fields in MARC biblio I am presented with a screen where there's "Add Item" button. A files marked as "p barcode" is shown. Once filled with a value, say 9788370120122, the book cannot be found by this barcode from the catalog search page. I found out the the book received barcode number "1". Why? Benedict

Lost database connection during z3950 searches.

Hi, I just downloaded koha2RC4, but unfortunately it is still buggy (actually unusable) when running z3950 searches. When an ISBN is typed in and "z3950 search" executed, the processz3950queue.pl script successfully queries LOC but then looses database connection and reports MySQL server has gone away at ... Unfortunately I never programmed in PERL, (but got myself a good PERL book) and tried finding out what's going on. I know now exactly when and why it fails but I'm unable to fix it :-( Here is what's happening... 1. Once "z3950 search" is clicked, the processz3950queue.pl forks. The child correctly looks up LOC and does its thing. However once it 'exits' on line 314, the data base connection is lost in the parent process as well, hence I get errors on lines 136, 139 etc after it prints 'starting loop'. To prove this I delayed the 'exit' by 20 seconds and during this time the parent ran quite happily. 2. On line 182, the child process tries to get a new database handle, but C4::Context->dbh, according to its documentation, will not work at it simply returns an existing handle because a connection has already been made, right at the start of the script. 3. I though bingo, replaced Context->dbh with ->new_dbh and expected it to work, but sadly it failed the same way. 4. According to my very limited understanding, the child process must establish a new connection to the database, so when it exits only this connection will be lost and not the parent's one. I'm running RH8. Hoping that someone will know how to fix it. Thanks tomasz kotula.

where to set sitewide character encoding?

Hi, I was wondering where to set sitewide character encoding for the Polish language. In the httpd.conf or in a file of koha distro? Is there such single file? Say, I translate opac.pl using kate and utf-8... Then I update the directories with ./tmpl_process. I can't enjoy utf-8 because koha defaults to iso-8859-1. Paul, how did you menage to set it in the French language? French uses iso-8859-2. Benedict
