[I've modified Paul's announcment a little bit. It would be nice to get this translated into any languages we can and get it submitted to appropriate news sites.] The Koha project is happy to announce the release of Koha 1.9.3. This release adds a lot of bugfixes (thanks to everyone who's helped!), a first cut at z3950 support, and a script for migration from other ILSs. This release marks a feature freeze pending the 2.0.0 release. As always, this release is available from http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/koha 1.9.3 requires a newer version of MARC::Record than previous versions of Koha. Please make sure you're running MARC::Record 1.26. We've also made a few more tweaks to the Database Schema. If you've already installed an earlier version of Koha, you will need to update your DB to reflect these. 1.9.3 is a beta level release. It is not intended for production use. Please don't run your library on it, as this may result in martians invading your staff lounge and drinking all your coffee. If you are evaluating, testing, or playing with 1.9.3 for any reason, please help us make it better by reporting bugs on bugs.koha.org. Feel free to fix them too. new developers

[please feel free to translate this and distribute it. -pate] In the course of the last week, I've added two new developers (from France) to our Sourceforge site. It looks like I'll be getting to add a couple more (from Argentina) in the near future. I'm really excited to see more groups joining up with Koha, and I can't wait to see the kinds of things that start happening. Let me take this opportunity to talk about four things: 1) If you're interested in working on Koha, please let Chris, Paul, or I know. We can always use people who want to work on coding, testing, writing documentation, or what have you. Even if your Perl skills aren't the greatest, there are plenty of ways you can contribute. 2) If you are registered as a developer, but you haven't been active in the last year or so, please get in touch with me. I promise I won't try to talk you into working on the project, I just want to see if you're still there and still interested. 3) We're hitting the home stretch towards 2.0.0, this means we need to be extra careful about what we do with our sourcecode. If you're a developer and you've got an idea for a cool new feature, please DON'T add it to koha yet. If you've just got to work on it, please do so outside the normal cvs tree -- once 2.0.0 is out, we'll be relaxing this stance. 4) If you want to work on Koha, but don't know where to start, please take a look at bugs.koha.org ... there are a lot of little things that need to be fixed. Koha and the Trophees du libre

As a bit of added excitement, it appears that Koha has made the list of finalists for the Trophees du Libre, a free software prize being awarded in Soissons, France on May 23rd 2003. There are 113 projects who are being considered for awards in 6 classifications. Koha is in the 'Applications for Public Agencies' category, where there are 20 finalists. Paul Poulain will be representing Koha at the awards ceremony. I think congratulations are in order for everybody who's contributed code, documentation, testing, or any other activities that have helped to make Koha what it is. the german opac

Hi everybody, after a while of absence, we now are going to present koha on a trade fair in germany next week. so i recently put the german opac in the cvs. please note that i also created an "all"-directory. all files, which are equal in all languages (e.g. numbers, backgrounds...) should go in this directory instead of the languages directory. you can access this files via "/default/all/...". i also noticed that in many language's templates some files are still adressed to the "/images" directory (directly under the webroot), this tree (now in koha-html) will be given up in the future and will be completely replaced by "/theme/language/images" or "/theme/all/images" (in koha/koha-tmpl).
